At today’s Cabinet meeting, I received approval for my participation in the Group of 20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting to be held in Asheville, North Carolina in the United States, as well as my travel to San Francisco to visit AI-related and other companies. As the world economy still faces a wide variety of risks, including the situation in the Middle East, I intend to significantly contribute to discussions on various issues related to the world economy and international finance while building relationships with finance ministers and others from various countries.

Sales of non-exchange-traded investment products surged 63% year-on-year (YoY) to an all-time high of $9.9 trillion in 2025, driven by a record level of market participation with strong demand for fixed-income, currency and commodity (FICC)-related products, according to the annual joint survey by the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) published today.

Recently, the China-Saudi Listed Company Roadshows were brought to a successful close. Against the backdrop of the China-Saudi comprehensive strategic partnership, the roadshows provided a two-way matchmaking platform for market participants in the two countries' capital markets, bringing in new opportunities for collaboration among listed companies, securities firms, asset managers, and other market participants. Formatted as one-on-one meetings or one-company-to-multiple-investor sessions at a small scale, the event brought together approximately 200 attendees from around 40 companies and 40 investment institutions based in China or Saudi Arabia.

As of the end of August 2026, the SET Index closed at 1,595.16 points, down 1.8 percent from the previous month but still up 26.6 percent from the end of 2025. The Thai stock market faced pressure from renewed tensions in the Middle East, which pushed crude oil prices close to USD 90 per barrel, along with volatility in the U.S. Treasury market arising from concerns over public debt and fiscal deficits. Developments at the Jackson Hole meeting also contributed to higher U.S. Treasury yields and a stronger U.S. dollar. These factors affected capital flows into emerging markets, including Thailand. In August, foreign investors were net sellers of Thai equities by USD 746 million but remained net buyers by USD 1.6 billion year-to-date.
