    Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman William H. Donaldson today announced the selection of Julie A. Erhardt to serve as Deputy Chief Accountant for the Commission.   • FTSE Xinhua Index Announces Review Results - Ping An Insurance Added TO THE FTSE/Xinhua China 25 Index

    FTSE Xinhua Index (FXI), the independent China index provider, held its quarterly Index Committee meeting on Tuesday to review and approve constituent changes on the FTSE Xinhua China Index Series. The changes for the FTSE/Xinhua China A 50, A 200, A 400, A 600, A Small Cap and B 35 indices will become effective after the close of business on Friday 15 October 2004 (i.e. on Monday, 18 October 2004).

    Further to the communication of last month, FTSE Group has been unable to reach an agreement with MSCI/Barra to maintain distribution of FTSE indices via Barra. Therefore (at this point), from November 1, 2004 FTSE data users will no longer be able to access FTSE data from Barra products.

    The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT®) announced today that on October 14, total volume in the CBOT's precious metals complex, which consists of full-sized and mini-sized Gold and Silver futures, rose to 5,203 contracts. Further, the CBOT's metal complex garnered approximately 7 percent of total volume in U.S. exchange-traded gold and silver futures.
