Closure Of Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange - Friday, 1 February 2002

The Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE) wishes to announce that the offices of the KLSE Group will be closed in conjunction with Federal Territory Day on Friday, 1 February 2002. The offices of the KLSE Group will resume operations on Monday, 4 February 2002.
CFTC Chairman Newsome Testifies Before Senate Energy Committee

James E. Newsome, recently confirmed Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), testified today before the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. At the request of Committee Chairman Jeff Bingaman, Chairman Newsome detailed the CFTC's role and responsibilities in overseeing the trading in energy futures and option markets under its jurisdiction.

General The year ended December 31, 2001 was a challenging one for the Barbados Stock Exchange. Share prices and volumes cascaded even though the September 11th disaster did not have any direct effect on this market, which is not yet sufficiently sophisticated to react to this type of pressure. However, areas of substantial growth were achieved in the Junior and Bond Markets respectively.

Today (28 January 2002), Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance, Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak, together with the Deputy Minister of Commerce, Dr. Suvarn Valaisathien, convened a meeting to formulate a model for promoting the Good Corporate Governance campaign for 2002. This is a follow-up to the Capital Market Master Plan Meeting recently held at the SET. Today's meeting brought more then ten parties to the discussion on what constitutes good corporate governance.

The New York Stock Exchange announced today that it determined that the common stock of Global Crossing Ltd. (the "Company")-- ticker symbol GX - should be suspended immediately. The New York Stock Exchange has signed an agreement with Dow Jones Indexes, a unit of Dow Jones & Co. (NYSE:DJ), to develop and maintain a family of indexes, the first of which is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2002.
