    The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. announced today that Archipelago has begun trading New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and American Stock Exchange (AMEX) stocks on Nasdaq InterMarketSM (formerly known as the Third Market).   • Philadelphia Stock Exchange Continues To Set Volume Records

    The Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) announced today that equity volume for the month of July 2000 reached 136,980,844 shares traded, a 23% increase over July 1999, when 111,191,250 shares changed hands. In addition, during the first seven months of 2000, PHLX traded a record of over 1.3 billion shares, an increase of 35% in comparison to the same period last year when 979,739,991 shares changed hands. The PHLX currently trades approximately 2300 equities.

  • NEWEX Starts On 3 November - Application For The Exchange-Operating License

    NEWEX, the special exchange for Central and East European companies, wants to start trading on 3 November. The announcement was made by the joint venture of Deutsche Börse and Wiener Börse on 7 August. The exchange reports that it has now applied for the exchange-operating license and has thus taken a further step towards the establishment of a quality market for equities from Central and Eastern Europe.

    The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) has announced a launch date of Tuesday, Sept. 5, for futures on the FORTUNE e-50™ Index. FORTUNE e-50 Index futures will enable investors to obtain exposure to the stocks defining the new Internet economy with just one trade.

  • Botswana: Chase/Flemings Merger

    The merger between Chase Manhattan Corporation (Chase) and Robert Fleming Holdings (RFH) came into effect on 1st August 2000. The acquisition is conditional on (amongst other things) necessary regulatory clearances being obtained. If the proposed acquisition succeeds, there will be a change in control of RFH and its subsidiaries. Stockbrokers Botswana Limited is therefore likely to cease being a subsidiary of RFH, and become a subsidiary of Chase.
