CBOT To Launch Options On Swap Futures Contracts

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOTÒ) today announced the expansion of its swaps complex to include options on 10-Year and 5-Year Interest Rate Swap futures. ABN AMRO Bank N.V., currently the designated open auction and electronic market maker for the complex's existing 10-Year and 5-Year Swap futures, also will make markets for CBOT® options on Swap futures. The CBOT expects to launch these new contracts in its open auction and electronic markets in the early fall of 2002.

In advance of next week's Federal Open Market Committee meeting on August 13, the Chicago Board of Trade will be reporting daily rate change probabilities in the FOMC's federal funds target rate, as indicated by the CBOT® 30-Day Federal Funds futures contract. The CBOT® 30-Day Federal Funds futures contract is a key benchmark interest rate barometer that reflects the overnight effective rate for excess reserves that are traded among commercial banks in the U.S. federal funds market.

Traded volumes in SPI 200™ futures and options at the Sydney Futures Exchange in July 2002 grew by approximately 23% and 12% respectively compared to the same month in 2001, influenced by a number of development initiatives implemented over the last three months. Interest rate futures and options also performed strongly, growing 36% and 95% respectively in comparison with the same month last year.

Philadelphia Stock Exchange To Guarantee A Minimum Of 10 Contracts For Automatic Executions In Top 120 Options For Off-Floor Broker-Dealer Orders

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) announced today that the Securities and Exchange Commission has approved amendments to Exchange Rule 1080 that will provide for the automatic execution of a minimum of 10 contracts in the top 120 option classes for AUTO-X eligible orders for the account(s) of off-floor broker-dealers delivered through AUTOM, the Exchange's automated order routing, delivery, execution and reporting system for options. The program will begin tomorrow.
