  • Tokyo Stock Exchange: Addition To TOPIX Methodology

    Tokyo Stock Exchange, Inc. (TSE) announced on Wednesday, August 20, 2003, that it will adopt certain changes concerning its method for including newly listing companies*with extremely large market capitalizations into the TOPIX and its sub-indices. This measure is designed to mitigate market impact from inclusion of such large companies to the TOPIX, in light of the fact that TOPIX is widely used as a benchmark for institutional investors.     The stock market. Tangible increase in prices took place in the stock market, as a result of which the MICEX Index grew by 7,1% and reached 464,33 points. Market participants were quite active and the volume of secondary trades reached 47,11 billion rubles, having increased about 1,9 times over the previous week. The blue chips went up by 5-10% on average, while the common stock of Surgutneftegaz went up by 16,6%.
