CFIE Postpones June Symposium On Corporate Governance In Toronto

Due to the public reaction to Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and impact this anxiety is having on conferences scheduled to be held in Toronto, the Canadian Foundation for Investor Education (CFIE) has decided to postpone its planned symposium on June 6th in Toronto.

The Daily Volume Of Secondary Trades In The MICEX Stock Market Section Reaches 15,235 Billion Rubles, A Record Figure For The Whole Period Of Stock Trades On The MICEX

As a result of trades on the MICEX, held 21 April 2003, the volume of secondary trades in corporate securities reached 15,235 billion rubles (about 490 mln dollars). This is a record volume of secondary trades for the whole period of the MICEX stock market, launched in March 1997. The previous record of 13,258 billion rubles was posted 26 December 2002.

Stock Exchange Of Thailand Joins Hands With Auditing Offices To Create A Database Of Financial Statements To Increase Efficiency In Analyzing Financial Information

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) will setup a database of listed companies' financial statements so they meet a common set of standards. This will make it easier for securities analysts and interested people to use the financial information more accurately and efficiently. The SET has sought cooperation from 20 auditing offices. The database will be test piloted with the financial statements due the first quarter of 2003 and should be ready for use with the second quarter's financial stat

Singapore Exchange Amendments To Quarterly Reporting Requirements

Singapore Exchange Ltd (SGX) today announced that in line with the Government's changes to the quarterly reporting requirements, it will, with immediate effect, waive mandatory quarterly reporting for listed companies with market capitalization of S$75 million and below, based on the 31 March 2003 market capitalization data published by SGX. The quarterly reporting requirements for these companies will be reviewed in mid-2005.

SEC Votes To Mandate Electronic Filing Of Ownership Reports - Prohibit Improper Influence Of Auditors

The Securities and Exchange Commission today voted to require that reports by insiders disclosing their securities holdings be filed electronically with the SEC. The Commission also voted to adopt rules prohibiting company officials from improperly influencing auditors of financial statements.

Boosted by "Yukos" common stock, the RTS Index closed on April 23, 2003, at 429.44 points - the maximum level for the last five and a half years - exceeding the previous maximum of 438.34 reached on November 6th, 1997.
