SEC Charges Former CIBC Managing Director With Fraud For Role In Financing Unlawful Mutual Fund Trading

The Securities and Exchange Commission instituted enforcement proceedings against Paul A. Flynn, a former managing director of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), for his role in providing financing to hedge funds he knew were engaged in unlawful market timing and late trading of mutual funds. Flynn, age 46, is a resident of Larchmont, New York.

Attorney General Eliot Spitzer today announced the arrest of a former executive of a leading financial services company for stealing over $1 million from mutual funds by participating in a late-trading scheme. The executive, who is alleged to have arranged financing for the illegal scheme, has also been charged with felony violations of New York's securities laws.

HKEx Changes Of Designated Securities For Short Selling

The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx), announces that with effect from 10 February 2004 (Tuesday), 29 additional securities will be eligible for short selling and three existing designated securities will be removed from the list. The total number of designated securities for short selling will be 217 after the revision.
