Securities Industry Association TO NASD: Mutual-Fund Compensation Rules Should Be Uniform, Flexible, Have Clearly Defined Terms

While supportive of enhanced disclosure of mutual-fund revenue-sharing and differential-compensation arrangements contained in an NASD rule proposal, the Securities Industry Association recommended in its comment letter that the NASD: coordinate and make uniform with other regulators and legislators any rulemaking on these arrangements; provide broker-dealers with flexibility as to the methodology for addressing these and related mutual-fund disclosures; and, define "differential compensation"

Securities And Exchange Commission Reappoints Charles D. Niemeier To Public Company Accounting Oversight Board

The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced the reappointment of Charles D. Niemeier to the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). The Commission unanimously selected Niemeier to serve a five-year term as a PCAOB board member upon the completion of his current one-year appointment this month.

At its meeting on 22 October the Board of Oslo Børs resolved to impose a violation charge on SuperOffice ASA equivalent to four times the company's annual listing fee, i.e. NOK 440,000, for a breach of the duty of disclosure in connection with a contract entered into in August 2003.
