Euronext Paris Derivatives Markets: Seasonal Letup In Business Pace In July - Record Open Interest At Month End Steep Rise In Commodity Contracts - Overall Rise In Business For The First Seven Months

Trading on Euronext Paris derivatives markets eased in July after reaching its second highest level ever in June. A total of 26,038,924 contracts were traded in July. At the end of the month, open interest topped 50 million contracts, reaching a new record of 52.138 million. Trading in the first seven months totalled nearly 172 million contracts, showing a rise of 21.03% from 142 million in the same period of last year.

The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx), announces that with effect from 20 August 2001, nine additional securities will be eligible for short selling and 11 existing Designated Securities will be removed from the list. The stock market Last month, the BEL20 Index raised by 1.5%, representing a 13% gain since it reached its lowest level on 22 March 2001. The Brussels All Shares Price and Return Index went up by 1.5% each. The Small Caps Index climbed by 5%. The sector indices Health, Chemicals, Food Producers & Processors and Banks increased by respectively 3.30%, 3.16% and twice 2.28%.

NEWEX Instruments Now Tradable On Xetra Frankfurt

From now on selected securities at NEWEX (New Europe Exchange) can be traded on the Frankfurt Backend of Xetra, the electronic trading system, as NEWEX announced yesterday. With this move all 435 Xetra members are now able to trade CEE securities directly on NEWEX.

Nasdaq Urges Quick Senate Passage Of Fee Relief Bill

The chief executive officer of the Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc., Hardwick Simmons, today praised Senate Democratic leaders for their commitment to promptly consider the Investor and Capital Markets Fee Relief Act (H.R. 1088) when Congress returns from its August recess. "This is an important measure that saves investors money and helps ensure the integrity of the securities markets," Simmons said.
