Record Trading Volume On The Spot Market: 50,000 MWh Traded - EEX Posts Highest Volume Ever Traded On An Electricity Exchange In Germany

The European Energy Exchange (EEX) set a new record in trading volume on Thursday with 50,087 MWh of electricity traded on its spot market. Never before has so much volume been traded on an electricity exchange in Germany. EEX beat its old record, set on March 14 with 40,771 MWh, by more than 20 percent. Roughly 30,000 MWh of electricity are traded on a daily average in the EEX spot market.

‘Side-By-Side’ Electronic Trading Of Currency Futures Begins April 2 On Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc.

Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. (CME) will begin offering "side-by-side" electronic and open outcry trading of its currency and cross-rate futures contracts on Monday, April 2. CME said it is offering the side-by-side program—representing the first daytime electronic trading of the exchange’s major currencies—in response to customer requests as well as the increasing role electronic trading has played in currency trading globally.

Nasdaq Announces $240 Million Investment By Hellman & Friedman, Leading Private Equity Firm - Reduces NASD’s Ownership Interest To Approximately 27%, On A Fully Diluted Basis

The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc., the National Association of Securities Dealers, and Hellman & Friedman LLC today announced that the leading San Francisco-based private equity firm has signed a definitive agreement to invest $240 million in Nasdaq. The investment is the first following the closing of Phase II of Nasdaq’s Private Placement in January 2001. Hellman & Friedman’s investment represents the latest step in Nasdaq’s strategic restructuring into a private, for-profit securities market.
