The New York Stock Exchange today reported short interest as of the close of business on the settlement date of October 15, 2002, reflecting transactions through October 9, 2002. Based on information received from members and member organizations, short interest increased to a record 8,204,136,783 shares on October 15, 2002 from 7,994,772,795 shares on September 13, 2002.
