Instinet, a global agency broker, today launched Wizard, a new arrival price algorithm that sets its trading schedule by balancing a stock’s historical and option-implied volatility risk with the estimated market impact and the trader’s short-term alpha estimate. Wizard relies on the well-known U.S. Shortterm Equity Risk Model from Northfield Information Services, one of Wall Street’s most respected providers of risk forecasting models.

Event driven was the best performing strategy for the month with a net-of-fee gain of 1.10%. The remaining strategies were up less than 1% for the month with gains ranging from 0.19% (equity long/short) to 0.93% (distressed securities).

The CBOE Futures Exchange, LLC (CFE) announced today that trading volume in VX futures, based on the CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), reached a new all-time high on Tuesday, October 10, as 10,673 contracts traded -- the first time that volume has topped the 10,000-contract mark in a single day. Yesterday's total surpassed the previous high of 9,148 contracts set on May 3, 2006.
