The American Stock Exchange® Reports Decrease In Short Interest

The American Stock Exchange® (Amex®) member and non-member organizations reported short interest of 443,263,707 shares as of the January 15 settlement date, a decrease of 21,846,931 shares from the 465,110,638 shares (adjusted) reported in mid-December. The January figure represents trades through January 10, 2002.

Pacific Exchange Elects New Governors

The Pacific Exchange (PCX) has announced that, at its annual meeting held on January 24, its members elected J. Steven Noonan, Vice President, SLK-Hull Derivatives, LLC, as Vice Chair-elect of the PCX Board of Governors. Noonan succeeds Paul J. Roesler, Lead Market Maker for Equitec-Cole Roesler, LLC, who will serve as Vice Chair of the Board for 2002. Noonan, who will serve as Vice Chair in 2003, was also elected as a Floor Governor of the Exchange.

NASD Board Approves Stock Sale To Nasdaq

The NASD announced yesterday its Board of Directors had approved the sale of its remaining 33.7 million shares of Nasdaq common stock to The Nasdaq Stock Market. Prior to this transaction the NASD owned, on a fully diluted basis, 27.6 percent of Nasdaq common stock.

Based upon the January 24th market close in the February 2002 expiration, the Chicago Board of Trade 30-Day Federal Funds futures contract is currently pricing in a 12 percent probability that the Federal Open Market Committee will lower the federal funds target rate by at least 25 basis points from 1-3/4 percent to 1-1/2 percent at the FOMC meeting on January 29-30 (versus an 88 percent probability of no rate cut).

HKEx: Liquidity Providers To Be Introduced Under Amended Derivative Warrant Rules

Issuers are required to appoint Liquidity Providers (LPs) for derivative warrants listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx), under amendments to the Listing Rules that became effective 10 December 2001.
