SEC Names Lawrence E. Harris Chief Economist

Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Harvey L. Pitt today announced that the Commission has named Professor Lawrence E. Harris as Chief Economist and head of the Commission's Office of Economic Analysis. As chief economist, Dr. Harris will advise the Commission and its staff on critical economic issues, recommend and initiate major policy projects designed to make the Commission's regulations more efficient and effective, and oversee staff analysis of the economic impact of SEC regulatory

New composition Next 150 Index Following the official results of the takeover bid by Brack Capital Real Estate for the Dutch company Haslemere (Next 150 Index) and the acquisition of the Dutch company Rodamco North America (Next 150 Index) by a consortium led by Westfield America Trust, Haslemere and Rodamco North America will be removed from the Next 150 Index.

Euronext.liffe Trades 55.4 Million Contracts In April, Up 25% From April 2001

Euronext.liffe, the derivatives business of Euronext, traded a total of 55.4 million futures and options contracts during the month of April. Average daily volume amounted to over 2.6 million contracts, which represents an underlying nominal value of €582 billion. Year-to-date Euronext.liffe's volume of 237 million is up 29% on the same period in 2001. Total open interest stood at 105 million contracts at the close of trading on 30 April.
