    The following announcement has been issued by RPC Data (RPC) to shareholders. "Further to the press announcement on 17 March 2000, Robert Fleming (Pty) Ltd is authorised to announce that during the course of further negotiations with the shareholders of Acumen and the shareholders of Pathfinder Enterprises (Pty) Ltd trading as NIIT ("NIIT"), it has been decided that RPC will not purchase the entire issued share capital of NIIT.

    After 2 weeks of debate in parliament, Botswana's much talked about privatisation policy has now been approved. The initial draft white paper was presented to government in July 1998 by the Task Force set up by government, which was headed by D. N. Moroka, former Managing Director BP Botswana. Government had since been preoccupied with last year's general elections. The privatisation policy backed by Cabinet was then presented to parliament a few weeks ago for consideration.     Actelion Ltd, ninth company to list on SWX New Market, opens 92% above offering price. The shares of Actelion Ltd., a bio-pharmaceutical company, were traded today for the first time on the SWX New Market. The offering price was set Wendsday night at CHF 260. At the start of trading on SWX, the stock stood 92% above that level at CHF 500, representing a total market capitalization for the company of CHF 2,4 billion.

  • PHLX Equity and Options Post Record Breaking Volume

    The Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) announced today that volume in PHLX's 950 equity options for the month of March 2000 reached an all-time record of 5,450,551 contracts traded, surpassing by 19% the previous record volume month set in January 2000 when 4,581,850 contracts changed hands. In addition, during the first three months of 2000, PHLX traded a record 14,296,839 equity option contracts, an increase of 26% in comparison to the same period last year.
