CFTC Technology Advisory Committee Advances Report And Recommendations To The CFTC On Responsible Artificial Intelligence In Financial Markets - Commissioner Christy Goldsmith Romero Heralds The AI Expertise Of The Committee And The Committee’s Foundational, Iterative Approach To Recommendations

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Technology Advisory Committee (TAC),[1] sponsored by Commissioner Christy Goldsmith Romero, released a Report on Responsible AI in Financial Markets (Report). The TAC, which has as its members many well-respected experts in AI, issued a Report that facilitates an understanding of the impact and implications of the evolution of AI on financial markets. The Committee made five recommendations to the Commission as to how the CFTC should approach this AI evolution in order to safeguard financial markets. The Committee urges the CFTC to leverage its role as a market regulator to support the current efforts on AI coming from the White House and Congress.

SEC Charges Audit Firm BF Borgers And Its Owner with Massive Fraud Affecting More Than 1,500 SEC Filings

The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged audit firm BF Borgers CPA PC and its owner, Benjamin F. Borgers (together, “Respondents”), with deliberate and systemic failures to comply with Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) standards in its audits and reviews incorporated in more than 1,500 SEC filings from January 2021 through June 2023. The SEC also charged the Respondents with falsely representing to their clients that the firm’s work would comply with PCAOB standards; fabricating audit documentation to make it appear that the firm’s work did comply with PCAOB standards; and falsely stating in audit reports included in more than 500 public company SEC filings that the firm’s audits complied with PCAOB standards.
