  • Program Trading Averaged 23 Percent Of NYSE Volume During Mar. 13 - Mar. 17

    The New York Stock Exchange today released its weekly program-trading data submitted by its member firms. The report includes trading in all markets as reported to the NYSE for Mar. 13-17. This included program trading associated with the March 17 quarterly expiration of stock-index options and futures. The data indicated that during Mar. 13-17, program trading amounted to 23.0 percent of NYSE average daily volume of 1,241.4 million shares, or 285.9 million shares a day.

    On March 13, OME RSS3 futures opened slightly easier on long-liquidation and selling by bears due to the yen's strength. The current month and distant month fell by 1.50 yen and 1.30 yen from the last Friday's close to 65.20 yen and 77.80 yen, respectively.     On March 13, despite the yen's strength, OME Aluminium Futures opened slightly firmer with distant January contract at 171.9 yen, up 1.0 yen from the last Friday's close on hort-covering as LME three-month aluminium recovered the $1,600 level.
