Nasdaq Sets One-Day Point Gain Record - Third Largest Volume Day Also Established

The Nasdaq Stock Market® had its largest point increase ever with preliminary figures showing the Nasdaq Composite® Index rising 217.87 points to 3539.16. The Composite climbed 6.5 percent, its 2nd largest percent increase ever. The previous point gain record was set on April 7, 2000 with the Composite Index rising 178.89 points.

Nymex Sets Trading Hours for Middle East Sour Crude Oil Futures Contract

The New York Mercantile Exchange executive committee has approved trading hours for its new Middle East sour crude oil futures contract. They will be Mondays through Thursdays from 4 P.M. until 12:30 P.M. the following day and, on Sundays, from 7 P.M. to 12:30 P.M. the following day. The contract will be traded solely electronically over the NYMEX ACCESS® trading system.

NASD Restructuring Wins In Landslide Vote Of The Members - 84 Percent Of Those Voting, Vote "For" - Highest Member Turnout Ever - "Green Light" For Spinning Off The Nasdaq Stock Market

The National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD®), membership voted overwhelmingly in favor of the NASD restructuring at a special meeting today in Washington, D.C., concluding a five-week, voting process. In the NASD's highest member voting turnout ever, more than 80 percent of those voting were in favor of the restructuring.

Copenhagen Stock Exchange Announces Transfer of Bond Trading from ELECTRA to SAXESS

In the 4th quarter of 2000, bonds are transferred from the present ELECTRA trading system to the SAXESS trading system. In June 1999, trading in equities listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange was moved to SAXESS.

CBOE Daily Volume Sets New Record

Trading volume at the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) set a new record yesterday amidst heavy trading in options on the Nasdaq 100 Index (DJX) and Dow Jones Industrial Average Index (DJX). An estimated 2,363,737 option contracts traded today, topping the previous record of 2,336,415 option contracts, which was set on Friday, March 16, 2000.
