    The New York Mercantile Exchange set a daily volume record on Friday, May 18, with 43,688 natural gas options contracts traded, surpassing the record 43,534 contracts traded on January 31, 2000, and exceeded the record again on Monday, May 22, when 52,625 natural gas options contracts were traded.

  • Exchange To Increase Margins On Electricity Futures

    The New York Mercantile Exchange will raise the margins on California/Oregon border and PaloVerde electricity and on the July and August 2000 contracts for Cinergy, Entergy, and Pennsylvania/New Jersey/Maryland (PJM) electricity as of the close of business today. Margins on California/Oregon border and Palo Verde electricity futures will be increased to $2,000 from $1,500 for clearing members; to $2,200 from $1,650 for members; and to $2,700 from $2,025 for customers.     In preparation for the launch of an integrated spot and derivatives market for electricity, EEX, the European Energy Exchange, is now in the process of technically linking up the first participants to its trading systems. A total of 22 market participants from Belgium, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Switzerland are already preparing for the launch of the spot market in August.

(NASD®) today announced that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved its proposal to allow The Nasdaq Stock Market® to halt trading and quotations in OTC Bulletin Board® (OTCBB) securities under certain circumstances. The new rule - which will afford investors better protection - will be implemented on June 26, 2000.
