    The London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE) traded a record average daily nominal value of £301 billion (?433 billion) and a total value of £6,332 billion (? 9,118 billion) in September 2000. LIFFE has traded a nominal total value for the year of £50 trillion, maintaining its position as the world’s largest electronic exchange by value.

  • HKFE Sets Margin Rates For Mini-HSI Futures And Margin Offset between Mini-HSI Futures And HSI Futures

    Hong Kong Futures Exchange (HKFE), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, announced today (Tuesday) that margin rates for the Mini-Hang Seng Index (Mini-HSI) Futures contract will be one-fifth of the margin rates for the Hang Seng Index (HSI) Futures contract. HKFE also said it would allow a hundred per cent margin offset between Mini-HSI Futures contracts and HSI Futures contracts at a ratio of 5 to 1.

    Trading volume on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) rose 9.2 percent year-to date through September, as trading volume in equity index products set a new all-time monthly volume record of 6.2 million contracts. September's total of 19.2 million contracts surpassed previous month figures by 22.8 percent and previous year volume by 6.3 percent.
