CFTC To Hold Open Meeting

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) will hold an open Commission meeting at 3:00 p.m., on Thursday, May 30, 2002, to discuss three agenda items related to the trading of Security Futures Products. The tentative agenda items include two CFTC/Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) joint orders and a final rule.
CBOT 10-Year Swap Futures Sets Volume Record On May 28

Continuing to display one of the exchange's best new-product performances, the Chicago Board of Trade's (CBOT) 10-Year Interest Rate Swap futures contract on May 28, 2002, set a new daily volume record of 12,414 contracts, with open interest reaching an all-time high of 33,291 contracts. The former daily volume record of 9,137 contracts was set on March 26, 2002.
Stock Exchange Of Thailand Member Companies Elect Three New Members Of The Board

The SET president, Mr.Kittiratt Na-Ranong announced that a special meeting of the SET member companies on Friday 24 May 2002 has elected three new Board members to replace members whose terms will expire on May 27, 2002. This is also the first time that an election via the Nomination Committee of the member companies has been used since the SEC gave its approval in principle.

It has been announced that the plan of arrangement between SunLife Financial Services of Canada Inc. (TSX:SLC) and Clarica Life Insurance Company (TSX:CLI) has been successfully completed. On March 6, 2002, the shareholders of Clarica Life Insurance Company approved the bid whereby SunLife Financial Services of Canada Inc. will acquire all the shares of Clarica Life Insurance Company.

Turnover In April 2002, the total turnover of all market segments of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange (LJSE) amounted to SIT 40.92 billion, which exceeded the March results by SIT 3.6 billion and was also SIT 11.9 billion above the monthly average of the previous year. During the first four months of 2002, the total turnover grew by 59% compared to the same period in 2001.

The International Securities Exchange (ISE) successfully completed its second year of operation, having launched the only fully electronic U.S. options exchange on May 26, 2000. Its strong growth has accelerated, with twenty-five million contracts trading on ISE in its first year and one hundred-and-one million contracts trading during its second year.

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) said today that futures and options trading was interrupted at 3:12 pm due to a power failure. The UPS system failed to immediately takeover. Conversion to the alternative back-up centre took place at 4:00pm. The Exchange is required to provide participants 30 minutes notice prior to reopening. The Exchange in consultation with the Securities and Futures Commission made the decision not to re-open the markets.
