  • Estonian CSD Registered 4039 Joint Stock Companies In 2002

    In year 2002 the Estonian CSD (ECSD) registered 4,039 joint stock companies in the Estonian central securities register. As at the end of the year, a total of 4,850 companies had applied for registration on the register, i.e. more than 76% of all joint stock companies operating in Estonia.

  • Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. Signs Agreement with Euronext-Paris To Settle Dispute Related To Wagner Patent

    Chicago Mercantile Exchange Holdings Inc. (NYSE: CME) today announced that its subsidiary, Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc., has signed an agreement to resolve an indemnification dispute with Euronext-Paris S.A related to CME's $15 million settlement in August 2002 of the Wagner patent litigation. Under the agreement, Euronext will pay CME U.S. $7.5 million, half of CME's settlement with eSpeed.

    The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), the world's largest options exchange, concluded 2002 with total exchange-wide volume of 267,616,496 contracts (148,509,384 calls and 119,107,112 puts) traded, representing the third highest annual volume total in the twenty-nine year history of the Exchange. 2000 and 2001 were the highest and second highest volume years respectively at CBOE.     The Financial Services Authority has outlined three broad options for introducing lighter-touch regulation for face-to-face and telephone selling of a simplified suite of investment products. These products, as recommended in the Sandler report of July 2002, would have specifications set by the Treasury to ensure simplicity and control investment risks. They would be aimed at making long-term savings more accessible to lower-income customers.
