Hong Kong Futures Exchange Volume Rises in May
A total of 510,467 futures contracts were traded on the Hong Kong Futures Exchange in May compared to 505,056 in April. Options volume declined in May with 63,409 contracts traded compared to 70,452 contracts in April. The year-to-date (January to May) volume was 2,717,780 futures contracts, a decline of 11.2 per cent, compared to the same period last year. Year-to-date options volume rose by 11.6 per cent compared to last year with 363,910 contracts traded.

Deutsche Börse Establishing Energy Exchange in Partnership with Eurex and Nymex
Deutsche Börse has welcomed the German energy sector's decision to establish an energy exchange in Germany. The representatives of the energy sector had come out in favour of having the German Energy Exchange initiative supported by Deutsche Börse, Eurex and NYMEX develop and set up this new exchange. Botswana Stock Exchange Market Commentary
A sideways move in the market was observed this week with the index down less than 0.1% from its previous week's close. BIHL rose 25t to yet another all-time high of P10.40 on 2,617 shares, the second time in three weeks it has done so. FNBB gave up P1.00 on rather thin volume of only 500 shares to trade at P18.00. SFE 3-Year Bonds Set New Record
Trading activity in the Sydney Futures Exchange's (SFE) most heavily traded contract, 3-Year Bonds, rallied to new heights on June 10. Spurred by June to September rollover activity, the announcement of domestic unemployment figures and an overnight rise in US Long Bond yields, the volume of 3-Year Bond contracts traded surged to 171,572, representing a face value of A$17.1 billion. The previous highest mark of 143,479 contracts traded was set on 12 June 1998.

Johannesburg Stock Exchange and Stock Exchange of Mauritius Sign Memorandum of Understanding
At the conclusion of the quarterly meeting of the South African Development Community (SADC) Committee of Stock Exchanges held in Mauritius on June 10, the JSE and the Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Toronto Stock Exchange Members Overwhelmingly Support Demutualization And Realignment Plans
The members of the Toronto Stock Exchange today (June 10) approved demutualization of the exchange and the realignment of the Canadian stock exchanges. MEFF Holding trading volume in May reached 1,148,187 contracts, an average daily volume of 54,675 contracts. MEFF Renta Fija traded 333,570 contracts in May. LIFFE re-launches Bund Contract with reduced coupon
The London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE) today (June 10, 1999) announced that it will re-launch its German Government Bond (Bund) futures contract on 17 June 1999 with a 4% notional coupon (reduced from 6%). This will be effective for the September 1999 delivery month onwards.
