The Council will hold an "orientation debate" (preliminary discussion aimed at preparing the ground for a political agreement) on the proposed Directive on information which must be provided by companies whose securities are traded on a regulated market, such as a stock exchange (the so-called transparency Directive - see IP/03/436 and MEMO/03/68).

Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. (CME) today announced total CME trading volume for the first 10 months of 2003 was 539.5 million, compared to 475.3 million for the same period a year ago, a 14 percent increase year-to-date.

October 2003 - Euronext Key indicators - 125.5 Million Transactions In Cash Since January, Up 9% Year-To-Date - Euronext.liffe Trades 600 Million Contracts Year-To-Date

Cash products In the year-to-date, almost 125.5 million transactions have been registered on Euronext cash markets, around 586,000 on a daily average basis: an increase of 9% year-to-date. In October, the number of 13.6 millions of cash trades registered reflects a slight increase year-on-year.

The share trading in October amounted to EUR 47.4 billion, on a daily average EUR 2 062 million, which was the best month during 2003 for HEX Integrated Markets (compared to monthly pro forma figures). It was also the best month for Stockholmsbörsen since April 2002, the trading amounted to EUR 31.7 billion, on a daily average EUR 1 377 million.
