We all know that there have been problems in the market recently; we know that more needs to be done to improve corporate governance in Hong Kong. SEC Brings Settled Enforcement Action Against UBS PaineWebber for Failure to Supervise Broker, Imposes $500,000 Penalty

The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced the institution of administrative proceedings against UBS PaineWebber, Inc. for failing to supervise a former registered representative, Enrique E. Perusquia, who defrauded his clients of tens of millions of dollars. NZX Market Closure - An Explanation

Today NZX determined that the electronic messages originating from RMLT, one of the three New Zealand share registries that manage the transfer of shares between brokers accounts and clients accounts, were faulty. The faults were due to a RMLT software upgrade. NZX management accordingly decided to halt trading in the market. NZX has kept the market closed until it confirmed conclusively that (i) all shareholder balances within the RMLT registry are correct and all client positions accurate; and

CBOT: New Dow Divisor Announced

Starting with Wednesday, August 20, stock market trading, the Dow Jones Industrial AverageSM (DJIASM ) will be calculated with a new divisor because of Merck & Co., Inc.'s distribution of .1206 of a share of Medco Health Solutions, Inc. for each share held. As a result, the divisor for the 30 Industrials changes to 0.14249417 from 0.14279922.
