HKFE Announces Revised Margins For H-shares Index Futures Contract

Hong Kong Futures Exchange Limited (HKFE), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx), announced that with effect from the commencement of trading on Thursday, 8 January 2004, the minimum margins to be collected by an Exchange Participant from its clients in respect of their dealings in the following futures contract will be as outlined in the table below. The adjustments are based on the clearing company's normal procedures and standard margining methodology.

BSE Update – January 5, 2004

USDA has made the decision to depopulate the bull calf operation in Mabton, Washington, that includes a calf born to the heifer infected with BSE prior to the heifer’s slaughter this past December. There are approximately 450 cattle on the premises, and operations will proceed this week but will likely be dependent on weather conditions in the Mabton area. The calves will be transported to a currently unused slaughter facility.

Cash products In 2003, Euronext remained the leading European exchange by value and number of transactions in shares traded on an electronic orderbook. The turnover traded in shares through Euronext's electronic orderbook was €1,360 billion and the number of transactions rose to 141.6 million: up 9.6% on 2002.
