International Petroleum Exchange Crowns October 2003 As Best Month Ever

The International Petroleum Exchange (IPE), Europe's leading energy futures and options exchange, established a new monthly volume record as 3,354,804 lots were traded on the Exchange during October 2003. This surpassed the previous record set in January 2003 by approximately 2.5%. Representing an underlying value of $83.3 billion, the volume in October was equivalent to 3 billion barrels of crude oil.

INET To join NASDAQ's SuperMontage

Instinet ECN and Island ECN, soon to be combined into one electronic marketplace branded INET, today announced plans to participate in NASDAQ's SuperMontage. INET will begin displaying orders on SuperMontage in January following the consolidation of the Island ECN and Instinet ECN.

For the week of October 27th - October 31st, 2003, total trading volume on FORTS (Futures & Options on the RTS) reached 1 139 thousand contracts and 7 708 million rubles, compared with 694 thousand contracts and 5 391 million rubles the week before. Total open interest as of October 31st, 2003, equaled 4 208 million rubles and 695 thousand contracts (as of October 24th, 2003, the numbers were 5 629 million rubles and 916 thousand contracts).

Euronext.liffe Robusta Coffee Futures Contract Breaks Daily Volume Record

Euronext.liffe's Robusta Coffee futures contract set a new all-time daily volume record of 37,402 contracts on Friday 31 October 2003, breaking the previous record of 34,068 contracts set on 31 October 2002. Open interest as at 31 October 2003 stood at 123,602 contracts.

Eurex Turns Over 93 Million Contracts In October - 874 Million Contracts Traded In 2003 To Date - New Record Results In Dutch Equity Options And Eurex Bonds

Eurex, the international derivatives market, turned over some 93 million contracts in October. Compared with October 2002 (86.5 million contracts), Eurex volume increased 7.5 percent. From January to October 2003, the world's largest derivatives market turned over 874 million contracts, about 28 percent higher than the number traded during the same period of 2002 (684 million contracts). The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) announced today that October exchange-wide volume increased 8%, while total equity options volume surged 21% and total index options volume declined 10% when compared to the year-ago totals.

Deutsche Börse: 289 Billion Euros In Turnover On German Stock Exchanges In October

The aggregate turnover statistics show that a total volume of 289.5 billion euros was traded on the German stock exchanges in October 2003 - about nine percent higher than last year's level (October 2002: 266.4 billion euros). The total comprises 229.3 billion euros in equities, warrants and exchange-traded funds as well as 60.2 billion euros in fixed-income securities.

CFTC Announces Resignation Of Jane Kang Thorpe

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today announced the resignation of Jane Kang Thorpe effective November 21, 2003. Ms. Thorpe was appointed as Director of the Division of Clearing and Intermediary Oversight (DCIO) in May 2002. The Division was created during a 2002 restructuring of the Commission to facilitate implementation of the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 (CFMA).
