Deutsche Börse Withdraws Proposed Pre-Conditional Cash Offer For The London Stock Exchange

Deutsche Börse AG announces that it is withdrawing its proposed pre-conditional cash offer of no less than 530 pence for each ordinary share of the London Stock Exchange plc announced on 27 January 2005 (the Proposal). Sectors index options for February increased 23.34% when 498,620 contracts traded compared to 404,256 contracts traded in February 2004. Sectors index options volume in February rose 1.44% compared to the previous month when 491,654 contracts traded.

The Securities and Exchange Commission announced today that on March 2, 2005, it filed an emergency civil action to halt a massive fraud by a group of Palm Beach, Florida based hedge funds, their principals, their unregistered investment advisers, and an affiliated registered broker-dealer. On March 3, 2005, the Securities and Exchange Commission voted to adopt a rule concerning mutual fund redemption fees. The Commission also voted to propose a rule defining the term "nationally recognized statistical rating organization; approved the budget for the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board; and reviewed the annual accounting support fee for the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB).
