ASX Quarterly Update Nine months to 31 March 2004

Australian Stock Exchange Limited (ASX) today announced an unaudited operating profit after tax of $63.1 million for the nine months to 31 March 2004, an increase of 36.9% when compared with the $46.0 million recorded for the corresponding nine months to 31 March 2003.

The Securities Industry Association strongly supports efforts by the United States and European Union regulatory bodies to establish a more formal framework for resolving cross-border regulatory issues so that investors and issuers can benefit from a truly transatlantic securities market, SIA's chairman today said. More intensive prospective and coordinated regulatory discussions should help to achieve convergence of U.S. and EU regulations.

Standard & Poor's Indices Show Global Equity Rebound Waning In March - Japanese Equities Offer A Bright Spot

According to Standard & Poor's, a leading provider of independent investment research, indices, and ratings, global equities ended down 0.15% for March, ending a record eleven straight months of gains as measured by the S&P/Citigroup Broad Market Index (BMI) Global Composite [1]. However, even with the slowdown in March, the BMI, which measures over 7,500 stocks across 52 countries covering 97% of global market capitalization, still ended the first quarter with 4.16% gain.
SEC Publishes Notice Of PCAOB Standard On Wording In Audit Reports - If Approved, SEC Intends To Issue Guidance Regarding Related Requirements

The Securities and Exchange Commission today published a notice soliciting public comments on Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) Auditing Standard No. 1, entitled "References in Auditors' Reports to the Standards of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board." If approved by the Commission, Auditing Standard No. 1 would require that an auditor's report issued in connection with any engagement performed in accordance with the auditing and related professional practice
RTS Technical Index To Be Called "RTS Current Quotes Index"

At its April 1st, 2004, meeting the RTS Board of Directors has decided to rename the RTS Technical Index into the "RTS Current Quotes Index", effective April 13th, 2004. This decision will help separate the RTS Technical Index from the family of 'Technical Indices" that the exchange is required to calculate in accordance with the Statute on Securities Market Trading as of December 26th, 2003 in order to halt trading if necessary.
Royal P&O Nedlloyd On Euronext Cash And Derivatives Markets As Of 19 April

On 16 April 2004 the newly issued shares in Royal P&O Nedlloyd N.V. are due to be listed on Euronext. Following this listing, options on the shares of Royal P&O Nedlloyd NV will be introduced on Euronext.liffe on 19 April 2004. As of this date, Intal and Madron will act as Primary Market Maker to support trading in these securities.
