  • SunTrust Capital Markets Fined $100,000 For Failing To Register Research Analysts Under New Rules - SunTrust's 48 Analysts Issued Over 600 Reports Without Taking Qualifying Exams

    NASD announced today that it has censured and fined SunTrust Capital Markets, Inc. - the Atlanta, GA-based bank-affiliated broker-dealer and investment bank - $100,000 for failing to register its 48 research analysts under new NASD rules that took effect last year. This is the first NASD enforcement action involving the new registration requirements.

    Standard & Poor’s will make the following changes to the S&P SmallCap 600: Central Pacific Financial Corp. (NYSE:CPF) will replace Riggs National Corp. (NASD:RIGS) after the close of trading on Friday, May 13. S&P 500 constituent PNC Financial Services Group (NYSE:PNC) is acquiring Riggs National in a deal expected to close on or about that date.     Standard & Poor’s will make the following changes in the S&P/ASX 50 Index effective after the close of trading Friday May 13th 2005: Rio Tinto Limited (Australia, SEDOL: 6220103, GICS Code: 15104020) a member of the S&P/ASX 50 Index will increase its shares to 471,075,069. This change is due to a share buyback.

    The staff of the Securities and Exchange Commission announced today that on May 12, 2005, it will begin the process of publicly releasing comment letters and response letters relating to disclosure filings made after Aug. 1, 2004, and reviewed by the Division of Corporation Finance and the Division of Investment Management.     The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx), announces that with effect from 17 May 2005 (Tuesday), 37 additional securities will be eligible for short selling and nine existing designated securities will be removed from the list. The total number of designated securities for short selling will be 266 after the revision.
