China Becomes EBRD Member As Suma Chakrabarti Visits Beijing
China has become the 67th member of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Following the completion of all the formalities, the announcement was made after a meeting between the EBRD President Sir Suma Chakrabarti and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in Beijing on 15 January.

Thailand Prime Minister Highlights Capital Market’s Role To Drive Economic Growth
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), jointly with the Federation of Thai Capital Market Organizations (FETCO), organized a special session by inviting Thailand Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha to listen to a presentation by Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Finance on the role and strategic development framework of the Thai capital market. Hong Kong Court Of First Instance Finds Two Solicitors Engaged In Insider Dealing And Fraud Or Deception
The Court of First Instance today found that two solicitors, Mr Eric Lee Kwok Wa and Ms Betty Young Bik Fung, and Eric Lee’s sister, Ms Patsy Lee Siu Ying, contravened the Securities and Futures Ordinance (SFO) by insider dealing in the shares of Asia Satellite Telecommunications Holdings Ltd (Asia Satellite) and engaged in fraud or deception in transactions involving securities of Hsinchu International Bank Company Ltd (Hsinchu Bank).

SEC Charges State Street For Pay-To-Play Scheme
The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced that State Street Bank and Trust Company agreed to pay $12 million to settle charges that it conducted a pay-to-play scheme through its then-senior vice president and a hired lobbyist to win contracts to service Ohio pension funds.

GFMA, IIF And ISDA Statement On The Fundamental Review Of The Trading Book (FRTB) Framework Issued Today By The Basel Committee On Banking Supervision
The Global Financial Markets Association (GFMA), the Institute of International Finance (IIF) and the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) have issued the following statement on the Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB) framework issued today by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS):
“GFMA, IIF and ISDA share the Basel Committee’s goal of ensuring the safety and soundness of the global financial system, which is critical to enhancing investor and consumer confidence, and economic growth. We have remained supportive of BCBS’s work throughout the G20-mandated post-crisis programme and have continued to do so during the Fundamental Review of the Trading Book."
