Yet more records were set on the market as the index closed at a new record high of 2232.39 on good volumes for a weekly gain of 3.5%. It was a rare but positive week as all but one counter traded with 8 showing gains, only one falling and six unchanged.

RDCP announced interim results for the six months to June 2001. Turnover rose a strong 30.5% from P5.3m to P7.0m mainly as a result of the company's strategy of growing the portfolio through the acquisition of additional properties and new property developments. Operating expenses went up 30.3% from P1.3m to P1.7m, while finance costs went up 69.5% from P0.8m to P1.4m. The significant rise in finance costs was because most of the acquisitions were part funded by borrowing.

263 Million Euro Turnover At NEWEX In July

At NEWEX (New Europe Exchange), the exchange for Central and East European securities, volume of 263.16 million euros was traded in July. Volume of 106.33 million euros or 40.4 percent of the total, was traded in the NX.plus quality segment. The most active single issue was the common share of the Russian oil producer LUKOil, with over 1.27 million shares traded, corresponding to 65.55 million euros in value.

Today, the IPE's Electricity futures contract traded for the first time. The trade took place between Powergen and Carr Futures Inc at 11.33am London time for 20 lots (equivalent to 14,860 MW) of March 2002 at a price of £18.35.

FTSE / JSE Advisory Index Committee Announces Market Consultation On Free Float Indices

FTSE, the global index group, and the JSE Securities Exchange have appointed an independent Advisory Committee of market practitioners to oversee the new FTSE / JSE Africa Index Series. The Committee met for the first time in Johannesburg on Monday, 6 August 2001, and today launches a market consultation process on the introduction of free float.

CME Posts Consecutive Open Interest Records - Eurodollar Options Trading Volume Sets New Single-Day Record on Third-Busiest Day In CME's History

For the second consecutive day, open interest on Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. (CME) rose to a new high yesterday, August 9, of 14,319,018 positions. In addition, trading volume in Eurodollar options surpassed one million contracts for the first time, as 1,076,623 options changed hands. Total exchange volume reached 2,617,123 contracts-the third busiest trading day in CME history.
