SEC Further Extends Time For Banks To Comply With Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act Broker-Dealer Registration Requirements And Extends Comment Period

The Securities and Exchange Commission announced today that it issued an order further extending until May 12, 2002 the compliance dates for banks with respect to the broker-dealer registration requirements contained in the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. The Nasdaq Stock Market® today announced that daily volume on Nasdaq averaged 1.9 billion shares in the second quarter of this year, an 18.7 percent increase from 1.6 billion shares in the second quarter of 2000. Eleven of the 50 largest trading sessions ever on Nasdaq® occurred in the second quarter of 2001. Nasdaq also experienced its most active single session in the second quarter, when 3.19 billion shares were traded on April 18, 2001.

Riga In June total Latvian capital market trade added up to EUR 101.4 million (LVL 55.16 million), and habitually, debt market was in dominance with turnover over EUR 87 million (LVL 47.79 million). Equity trading volume was fair, reaching the level of EUR 13.56 million (LVL 7.37 million), for the most part owing to Balta shares buy-back executed by Codan. Now Codan owns over 99% of Balta shares.
