NYSE Introduces Three Sector Indexes - NYSE Energy, Financial And Health Care Indexes To Be Launched Jan. 8 - Four Sub-Indexes Discontinued

The New York Stock Exchange on Jan. 8, 2004, will revise its family of NYSE-branded indexes with the introduction of three new sector indexes – the NYSE Energy, Health Care and Financial Indexes. Concurrent with the launch, the NYSE will discontinue the currently available Industrial, Utilities, Financial and Transportation sub-indexes. The move furthers the NYSE’s efforts to provide investors and issuers with more accurate performance measures for NYSE-listed companies.

Eurex, the international derivatives market, closed out the year 2003 with record turnover of 1.014 billion contracts traded, some 27 percent higher than the previous year's figure (2002: 801 million contracts). With this turnover for the year 2003, Eurex will be closing out another year as the world's largest and most successful derivatives exchange. During the last month of trading in 2003, a total volume of 238.5 billion euros was traded on the German stock exchanges (December 2002: 245.2 billion euros). The December 2003 total comprises 186.6 billion euros in equities, warrants and exchange-traded funds as well as 51.9 billion euros in fixed-income securities. CBOT® Starts New Year With Successful Transition To New Electronic Trading Platform, Common Clearing Link

At the Chicago Board of Trade, the "new year" really began at 7:00 p.m. (Chicago Time) on January 1, 2004, with the successful transition of the remaining 31 CBOT futures and options on futures contracts to the exchange's new electronic trading powered by LIFFE CONNECT® and the full implementation of the CME/CBOT Common Clearing Link. The first trade on the new platform occurred at 7:00:06 p.m. and was an eleven lot in the MAR 04 U.S. Treasury Bond contract.

The CBOT® 30-Day Federal Funds futures contract for December 2003 was cash settled this morning at a final settlement price of 99.016, for an average daily effective federal funds rate of 0.984 percent during the delivery month. CBOE Year-End Volume Surpasses 283 Million Contracts, Up 6% For Year; December Volume Increases 53%

The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), the world's largest options exchange, announced today that volume at CBOE for 2003 totaled 283,946,495 contracts, a rise of 6% when compared to the year-ago level. The 283 million contracts traded in 2003 represented the third highest annual volume figure in CBOE history.
