IMF Executive Board Announces Follow Up Work On Institutional Safeguards

In its October 11, 2021 statement , the IMF’s Executive Board noted that it had “confidence in the impartiality and analytical excellence of IMF staff and in the IMF’s robust and effective channels for complaint, dissent, and accountability,” but it would consider “possible additional steps to ensure the strength of institutional safeguards in these areas.”

It is a privilege for me to address fellow macroeconomic forecasters, and I thought an appropriate subject would be the challenge of forecasting during the pandemic. First, a few remarks about my outlook. Then I will discuss some lessons learned from the pandemic—lessons about the economy's response to this unprecedented event relative to what forecasters, including myself, first thought.

JPMorgan Admits To Widespread Recordkeeping Failures And Agrees To Pay $125 Million Penalty To Resolve SEC Charges - Firm Also Agrees To Implement Significant Improvements To Its Compliance Controls

The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced charges against J.P. Morgan Securities LLC (JPMS), a broker-dealer subsidiary of JPMorgan Chase & Co., for widespread and longstanding failures by the firm and its employees to maintain and preserve written communications. JPMS admitted the facts set forth in the SEC’s order and acknowledged that its conduct violated the federal securities laws, and agreed to pay a $125 million penalty and implement robust improvements to its compliance policies and procedures to settle the matter.

EBA Consults On Amending Technical Standards On Benchmarking Of Internal Models

The European Banking Authority (EBA) launched today a consultation on the amendment of the Implementing Regulation for the 2023 benchmarking of internal approaches used in credit risk and market risk. While new instruments have been included for the 2023 market risk exercise, the credit risk IRB and IFRS 9 templates have remained untouched. However, for the IRB relevant data collection, some clarifications in the instructions are proposed and some issues are discussed with a view to apply future amendments to the ITS. The consultation runs until 18 February 2022.

US Financial Stability Oversight Council Releases 2021 Annual Report

The Financial Stability Oversight Council (Council) today unanimously approved its 2021 annual report. This year’s report describes activities of the Council over the past year, as the U.S. economy has continued to rebound from the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Monetary and fiscal policy, substantial progress in vaccinations, and broadly accommodative financing conditions have together supported this recovery and bolstered the financial condition of households and businesses. Additionally, the Council’s annual report describes significant financial market and regulatory developments, potential emerging threats to U.S. financial stability, and recommendations to promote U.S. financial stability. The report was developed collaboratively by members of the Council and their agencies and staffs.

EBA Proposes Amendments To Technical Standards On The Mapping Of ECAIs For Securitisation Positions

The European Banking Authority (EBA) launched today a public consultation to amend the Implementing Regulation on the mapping of credit assessments of External Credit Assessment Institutions (ECAIs) for securitisation. The changes reflect the relevant amendments introduced by the new Securitisation Framework, as well as the mappings for two ECAIs that extended their credit assessments to cover securitisations. The Implementing Regulation is part of the EU Single Rulebook for banking aimed at creating a safe and sound regulatory framework consistently applicable across the European Union (EU). The consultation runs until 31 January 2022.
