    The German financial community has successfully completed its preparations for the year-end transition to the Year 2000. The announcement was made by representatives of the German Bundesbank, Deutsche Bank, Hamburger Sparkasse and Deutsche Börse at a Deutsche Börse press conference in Frankfurt on Wednesday: "We are extremely well prepared and are confident about the date-change", was the comment in Frankfurt, "The high expectations we placed in the project have been met."

  • Deutsche Börse Updates Composition Of Stock Indices

    Deutsche Börse decided on the composition of its MDAX and SDAX indices on Tuesday. The shares of Stinnes AG will be included in the MDAX on December 20, taking the place of BHF Bank. It became necessary to make the replacement out of turn - the MDAX composition is usually reviewed in March and September - because the interest firmly held by ING Groep N.V, in BHF Bank (and thus not in free float) exceeds 85 percent.

    Custody volume at Deutsche Börse Clearing exceeded five trillion euros for the first time. At the beginning of November, Deutsche Börse Clearing held securities in deposit with a market value totalling 5.1trillion euros, about 20 percent more than at the end of last year.

    Many new records were set in open interest during the month of October. Most were in canola futures and options, which finished the month with open interest up 7% and 364% respectively over October 31, 1998. Open interest in canola futures peaked at a record 77,405 contracts on October 15. The January contract reached an historical high of 34,982 contracts open on October 29 and continues to set new records in the current month.
