    March 13, 2001 To All Shareholders: On March 7, 2001, our Board of Directors authorized steps to proceed with a possible initial public offering of shares of Class A common stock. We anticipate that any offering would be accomplished through a firm commitment underwriting led by one or more nationally recognized investment banks and that our shares of the Class A common stock would be listed on Nasdaq or the New York Stock Exchange.

    The Chicago Board of Trade announced today that CBOT® members set a new DowSMJones Industrial Average (DJIASMSM) futures contract daily volume record yesterday, trading 47,221 contracts. The former DJIASMSM futures high was 40,342 contracts, set on March 16, 2000.

    The Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) announced today that equity options volume for the month of February 2001 reached 8,586,871 contracts traded, a 101 percent increase over the same month last year when 4,264,438 contracts changed hands. In addition, year-to-date equity options volume reached a record 19,292,666 contracts traded. This represents a 118 percent increase over the first two months of 2000, when 8,846,288 contracts traded.

    The London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE) announced the launch of a further 15 Universal Stock Futures (USFs) contracts. These will be introduced in two phases: the 5 Italian stock-based USFs will be introduced on Monday 19 March 2001; the remaining 10 contracts will be introduced on Monday 2 April 2001.

    As of today, Monday 12 February 2001, 3.416.667 ordinary shares of Biotech are listed on the double fixing of Euronext Brussels: 83.333 existing shares and 3.333.334 new shares. The new shares were offered to the public from 5 February 2001 till 2 March 2001 at a price of 15 EUR per share. An amount of EUR 50 million was collected, the equivalent of the total offered shares.
