HKEx To Introduce New Stock Futures And Stock Options

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEx) will introduce three new stock futures contracts and three new stock option classes on 22 July (Monday). The underlying stocks for the new products will be China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, CNOOC Limited and Huaneng Power International, Inc.

CFTC Issues Report On Its Intermediaries Study

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has delivered to Congress a report on its study of potential regulatory relief for the futures commission merchants, introducing brokers, commodity pool operators (CPOs), and commodity trading advisors (CTAs) that serve as intermediaries in the commodity futures and options markets. The study was mandated by the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000.

In advance of next week's Federal Open Market Committee meeting on June 26, the Chicago Board of Trade will be reporting daily rate change probabilities in the FOMC's federal funds target rate, as indicated by the CBOT®30-Day Federal Funds futures contract. The CBOT 30-Day Federal Funds futures contract is a key benchmark interest rate barometer that reflects the overnight effective rate for excess reserves that are traded among commercial banks in the U.S. federal funds market.

The American Stock Exchange Reports Decrease In Short Interest

The American Stock Exchange (Amex) member and non-member organizations today reported short interest of 406,813,187 shares as of the June 14 settlement date, an decrease of 77,469,250 from the 484,282,437 (adjusted) reported in mid-May. The June figure represents trades through June 11, 2002.

Stockholmsbörsen will not introduce evening business hours during 2002. Stockholmsbörsen has concluded that the demand is insufficient to enable smoothly functioning evening trading. Healthy trading liquidity is a prerequisite for operating a smoothly functioning and efficient marketplace. The assessment made by Stockholmsbörsen is that evening business hours would not give rise to the requisite liquidity in the current market climate.

Standard & Poor's Announces Changes In The S&P/TSX Composite Index

Standard & Poor's Canadian Index Operations announces that effective after the close of business on Friday, June 21, 2002 the relative weights of the companies in the S&P/TSX Canadian Indices will be adjusted. The relative weight change reflects the quarterly update to the float shares of various companies. Changes to the indices are in accordance with S&P/TSX Composite Index Maintenance Policies.
