Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chairman James E. Newsome addressed the first-ever joint technical conference hosted by the CFTC and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on February 5, telling the participants and audience about the potential benefits of clearing as one possible solution for some of the credit problems facing the energy markets, while highlighting some of the challenges that are involved in using clearing as such a solution.

ASX: APRA And ATO Guidelines For Superannuation Trustees Use Of Instalment Warrants Clarified

On 16 December 2002, the Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority ("APRA") and the Australian Taxation Office ("ATO") published new guidelines for the use of instalment warrants by superannuation trustees. ASX has welcomed these guidelines, which were designed to provide clarity and certainty to trustees and investors using instalment warrants in regulated super funds.

The New York Board of Trade® (NYBOT®) announced today that its Sugar No. 11 futures contract broke another open interest record when 274,068 contracts were traded on February 4, 2003. The previous World sugar record was 273,716 contracts established on February 3, 2003.

Cash products Amsterdam, Brussels, Lisbon, Paris, 5 February 2003 - In January 2003, Euronext's cash markets recorded a total of 12,371,860 transactions, up 14% on December 2002. Year on year, the total for the month was up 9.8%, as was the daily average, which stood at 562,357. At 31 January 2003, total market capitalisation of the 1,469 companies listed on Euronext markets was €1,405 billion.

HKEx: Interim Solution To Ensure Stable HKATS Operations

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) will implement on 6 February 2003 (Thursday) an interim solution to the software problem that caused a temporary interruption in the operations of HKATS, the Hong Kong Futures Automated Trading System, on 29 January 2003. HKATS is the trading system for HKEx's futures and options contracts.
