    It is pleasing to see interest in listing equities on ICEX growing substantially after a quiet period. Two new companies were listed last month, on the one hand the UK company Mosaic Fashions, which manufactures and sells fashion women’s clothing, and on the other hand the Faroese oil company Atlantic Petro­leum.     As of September 19, the international derivatives market Eurex will be introducing a futures contract on SMIM®, the Swiss mid-cap index. With this product, Eurex offers investors an efficient and liquid risk management tool for trading with Swiss mid-caps, and meets the rising demand for derivatives in the mid-cap segment.

    In June, turnover in equities, bonds, warrants and exchange traded funds increased 33 percent year-on year, based on the aggregate statistics. Turnover accounted for €335 billion (June 2004: €252 billion). June total turnover included €267 billion in equities, warrants and exchange traded funds, as was well as €67 billion in fixed-income securities trading. In the first six months, exchange turnover accounted for €1.78 trillion, compared to €1.77 trillion in the first six months 2004.
