The number of transactions reached 13 666, down from 15 524 transactions last week. Total open interest as of August 1st, 2003, stood at 448 thousand contracts or 2 979 million rubles in underlying value.

    Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. (CME) had its busiest trading day ever in its interest rate futures and options contracts on Friday, Aug. 1, as total volume surpassed the 3 million contract level for the first time. Combined interest rate contract volume records were set in both floor trading and on CME's GLOBEX® electronic trading platform, with respective volume of 2,866,107 and 163,508.

    The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has extended to August 22, 2003, the comment period on proposed amendments to the Chicago Mercantile Exchange's live cattle futures contract, which will require that all cattle delivered on the futures contract be born and raised exclusively in the United States, and that the seller provide supporting documentation conforming to industry standards at the time of delivery.   • CBOT's July Volume Sets Highest Monthly Total At 45,018,548

    The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT®) today announced its highest monthly volume total ever at 45,018,548 contracts for July 2003, up 35.4% from July 2002, up 9.3% from June 2003 and up 37.3% year-to-date (YTD). A new exchange daily volume record was set on July 31 with 3,331,999 contracts traded surpassing the old record of 3,286,987 set May 28, 2003.
