USDA BSE Update - January 6, 2004

USDA announced today that DNA evidence now helps to verify-with a high degree of certainty-that the BSE positive cow found in Washington State originated from a dairy farm in Alberta, Canada. This DNA evidence is based on a comparison of DNA from the brain of the positive cow with the DNA from semen of her sire and was confirmed by both U.S. and Canadian animal health laboratories.

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange Announces Year-End And December Equity Volume - "Equity Volume Up 40% Compared To 2002"

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced today that total equity volume in 2003 reached 3,304,034 646 shares representing an increase of 40% compared to the 2,365,843,436 shares traded in 2002. The 2003 share volume represents the all-time record for shares traded in a given year. Equity volume for the month of December increased 14% representing 262,365,782 shares traded compared to the previous month when 230,080,251 shares traded.
