SEC And NASD File Fraud Case Against Knight Securities, L.P. - Knight Settles And Agrees To Pay $79 Million In Disgorgement And Penalties

The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced the settlement of civil fraud charges against Knight Securities, L.P. The Commission issued an Order that found that Knight defrauded its institutional customers by extracting excessive profits out of its customers' orders while failing to meet the firm's duty to provide "best execution" to the institutions that placed those orders. OneChicago: Product Listing -- Futures On Dow Jones MicroSector Indexes<SUP>SM</SUP>

Trading will be suspended on the Dow Jones MicroSector Index futures at the MAR05 contract expiration. MAR05 MicroSectors that have zero open interest will be delisted at the conclusion of DEC04 expiration. JUN05 contracts and beyond will not be listed.

Based on the preliminary year-end figures for 2004, which include an estimate for the last nine trading days of the year, a total volume of about 3.3 trillion euros was traded on the German stock exchanges in 2004, this represents an increase of 3 percent year-on-year (2003: 3.2 trillion euros). This total comprises about 2.6 trillion euros in equities, warrants and exchange-traded funds (2003: 2.4 trillion euros) and about 709 billion euros in fixed-income securities (2003: 808 billion euros).
