American Stock Exchange Reports Increase In Short Interest

The American Stock Exchange (Amex) member and non-member organizations today reported short interest of 906,619,080 shares as of the May 15, 2006 settlement date, a increase of 43,105,161 from the 863,513,919 (adjusted) shares reported in mid-April. The May figure represents trades through May 10, 2006.

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange To Introduce Trading In World Currency Options

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX), originator of the exchange-traded currency option contract, will introduce its latest product innovation - PHLX World Currency Options (WCO). The options were designed to appeal to retail investors who seek to hedge or trade in the direction of major currencies and will trade on PHLX XL, the Exchange’s electronic trading system. The new product will trade pending approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Successful Flotation Of SNS REAAL - Over EUR 30 Billion Market Capitalisation Added To Euronext Markets Since January, Including EUR 8 Billion On Euronext Amsterdam

SNS REAAL N.V. was admitted to listing on Eurolist by Euronext in Amsterdam today, bringing the number of new listings on Euronext Amsterdam so far this year to three. These added EUR 8 billion to market capitalisation on Euronext Amsterdam, setting total additions to market capitalisation on Euronext markets since the beginning of 2006 at over EUR 30 billion.

SEC Extends Compliance Dates For Regulation NMS

The Securities and Exchange Commission today extended the compliance dates for Rule 610 and Rule 611 of Regulation NMS, a series of initiatives designed to modernize and strengthen the national market system for equity securities. In response to Regulation NMS and the desire of investors for more efficient trading, many exchanges are automating their equity trading systems.
