Securities Markets: European Commission Proposes Wider Scope For Financial Collateral Directive

The European Commission has issued its evaluation report on the Financial Collateral Arrangements Directive (2002/47/EC). The report concludes that the Directive has made the use of financial collateral and the enforcement of collateral obligations simpler and more efficient. Overall, Member States have adequately implemented the Directive. OMX Signs Contract With The Zagreb Stock Exchange To Deliver New Trading System

OMX, a leading expert in the exchange industry, has signed an agreement with the Zagreb Stock Exchange to provide a new trading system and enhance Zagreb Stock Exchange's IT infrastructure. Under the terms of the contract, OMX shall be the system provider for the license, customization, implementation and support of Zagreb Stock Exchanges' new trading system for cash and derivatives. The agreement follows the Memorandum of Understanding signed in November 2006.

Xinhua FTSE Index Appoints New Managing Director

FTSE Group and Xinhua Finance have appointed Norman Yen as Managing Director of their joint venture, Xinhua FTSE Index (XFI), effective December 15, 2006. Norman is to oversee the operations, sales and marketing functions of XFI to further strengthen the index provider’s position of market leadership, as indicated by its 46.8% market share among China equity index providers for new fund issues in 2006 (Source: Wind Information; in terms of number of funds benchmarking XFI).

STOXX, the leading European index provider, today announced that the Dow Jones EURO STOXX 50 BuyWrite Index will serve as the underlying for an exchange-traded fund by Lyxor AM, a wholly owned subsidiary of Societe Generale. London Stock Exchange Completes Record Breaking Year With A Sprint - SETS Trading Up 67 Per Cent

Trading on the London Stock Exchange continued to be extremely strong during December 2006. Despite two half days during the month, the average daily number of trades on SETS was 346,286, up 67 per cent on December 2005, while the average daily value traded increased 47 per cent to £6.0 billion, making what is traditionally a quiet period the third busiest month on record. Up to 15 December, the average daily number of trades was 402,579, 30 per cent ahead of the average for the year as a whole.
