Internal market: European Commission Granted Authority To Negotiate International Convention On Holding Securities

The European Commission has been granted authority by the Council to open negotiations, on behalf of the EU, on part of a draft Convention aiming to make it easier to hold and transfer securities at a world-wide level. The negotiations will take place within the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT).

ICE Announces Holiday Trading Schedule

IntercontinentalExchange (NYSE: ICE), the leading electronic energy marketplace, announced its futures and OTC holiday trading schedule for the end of 2005 and the beginning of 2006. All ICE OTC markets are open for trading throughout the holidays in 2005 and 2006.

Hedge Fund Manager, Former Broker John F. Mangan, Jr. Barred, Fined $125,000 To Resolve Charges In PIPE Shares Deal - NASD Investigation into Other Individuals, Entities Continuing

NASD announced today that John F. Mangan, Jr., a hedge fund manager formerly registered as a broker with Friedman, Billings, Ramsey & Co. (FBR) of Arlington, VA, has been permanently barred from associating with any NASD-registered firm and will pay a $125,000 fine to settle charges that he deceptively obtained shares in a PIPE transaction, improperly sold the shares short, and shared in profits from the shares without obtaining permission from FBR.

FTSE Indexes Adopt Industry Classification Benchmark

FTSE Group (“FTSE”), will adopt the Industry Classification Benchmark (ICB) as its main classification system for companies and industries within its indexes and data products, beginning January 2, 2006. ICB is a four-tier hierarchical industry classification structure centered on a rules-based methodology for placing listed companies and securities within sectors. ICB was launched in January 2005 and the system is a partnership of Dow Jones Indexes and FTSE Group.

Euronext.liffe’s White Sugar futures contract registered four open interest records last week, culminating in a new all-time record of 73,199 contracts on Friday 16 December 2005.

Changes To Stockholm Stock Exchange’s Most Traded And ATTRACT40 Segments

The Stockholm Stock Exchange’s Most Traded and ATTRACT40 segments are to be updated as of January 1, 2006. Four new companies will be traded in the Most Traded segment of the A List. The ATTRACT40 segment of the O List will have 15 new companies, while eight companies will be removed from the segment. This is the last time these segments will be updated.

CBOE Seat Price Hits New High - Sale Of $850,000 On Monday, December 19 Is The Sixth Record Price This Month

The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) announced that yesterday a seat, or membership, at CBOE was sold for a new all-time record price. The CBOE seat sale of $850,000 on Monday, December 19th surpassed the previous CBOE all-time record seat price of $800,000 set on Thursday, December 8, 2005, and became the sixth record seat price set during the month of December.
