Component Changes Made To Dow Jones And Dow Jones STOXX Select Dividend Indexes

Dow Jones Indexes, a leading global index provider, and STOXX Ltd., the leading provider of European equity indexes, today announced that SunTrust Banks Inc. (United States, Banks, STI) and Huntington Bancshares Incorporated (United States, Banks, HBAN) will be removed from the Dow Jones Global Select Dividend, Dow Jones U.S. Select Dividend and Dow Jones STOXX Global Select Dividend 100 indexes.

CFTC Staff Allows Hong Kong Futures Exchange Limited’s Mini Futures Contracts Based On The Hang Seng Index And The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index To Be Offered And Sold In The United States

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission's (CFTC's) Office of General Counsel today announced that it issued a no-action letter on January 16, 2009, permitting the offer and sale in the United States of Hong Kong Futures Exchange Limited’s (HKFE) mini futures contracts based on the Hang Seng Index (HSI) and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index (HSCEI), respectively.

The NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc. (Nasdaq:NDAQ) today announced that The NASDAQ Stock Market(r) (NASDAQ(r)) captured a total of 177 new listings in 2008. Included were a record eight transfers from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), a record 51 transfers from NYSE Alternext (formerly the American Stock Exchange (Amex), and 26 IPOs.

UK’s Financial Services Authority Extends Waiver To Firms On Complaints Handling

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) today extended its waiver from complaints handling rules regarding unauthorised overdraft charges, for up to six months. This is because the test case is ongoing, and it is not yet clear how the banks should be responding to complaints about unauthorised overdraft charges so that customers are treated consistently and fairly.

Bank Shares Trading Heavily On PLUS Markets

Recent volatility in bank shares has seen a huge increase in retail trading in this sector. For example, trading volume statistics for Wednesday January 21st saw around 787 million RBS shares traded. Of this total almost 20% was traded on PLUS Markets, compared with a combined market share of under 4% for Chi-X, Turquoise and Nasdaq OMX Europe together.
