Private Equity Fundraising Collapses To Lowest Level Since 2003 - Total Of 73 Funds Hold Final Close In Q1 2009 Raising An Aggregate $45.9bn
Over the past week Preqin has contacted the 1,673 fund managers across the world currently in the process of raising a private equity fund to enquire as to their fundraising status, and importantly whether they had already, or were planning to hold a final close in Q1 2009. The results demonstrate the hugely challenging environment that is currently facing firms with funds on the road.

Mortgage Approvals: Increase Could herald start of a turnaround - UK Mortgage Approvals Have Gone Up For The Third Consecutive Month - Datamonitor
Alongside the news that the number of UK mortgage approvals has risen for the third month in a row, HSBC shareholders have backed a cash call from the bank, despite the problems faced by other banks with recent rights issues. BM&FBOVESPA ended the month of March with 236,080 contracts traded through the order routing agreement with CME Group (Globex-GTS). During the same period, 15,852 trades were also registered, including the transaction of products such as the dollar futures contract.

SEC Charges Seattle-Area Firm In Multi-Million Dollar Scam Targeting Religious Community And Charitable Investors
The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged John H. Min of Tacoma, Wash., and his company Dime Financial Group LLC for raising more than $6 million in a fraudulent investment scheme that targeted churches, church members and senior citizens. The SEC alleges that Min misled some investors into believing their money would support Third World charitable causes while in fact spending the funds on his own lavish lifestyle and on failed high-risk investments.
