Nigerian Stock Exchange Receives Award for Promoting Financial Literacy

The Nigerian Stock Exchange on Friday, May 27, 2016, received the “Corporate Achievement Award to a Financial Institution” at the inaugural annual Financial Literacy Excellence (FILEX) Awards. The Award which is aimed at celebrating and recognizing leadership and innovations that promote financial literacy in Nigeria was presented to the Exchange for its annual essay competition and investment education programmes in the capital market.

Trevor Paglen Wins The Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize 2016

Trevor Paglen has been awarded the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize 2016 in London on Thursday night at a special ceremony in the Photographers’ Gallery. The annual award comes with a prize money of 30,000 GBP and recognizes a photographer who has made an important contribution to contemporary photography in Europe in the previous twelve months.

UK’s Financial Conduct Authority Response To The CMA’s Provisional Decision On Remedies From Its Retail Banking Market Investigation

We welcome the Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA’s) efforts to increase competition in retail banking and are supportive of its provisional decision to make recommendations to the FCA to take forward a range of remedies, namely on service quality information, prompts and overdraft measures. The treatment of existing customers is a key priority for the FCA, including within our work on competition in retail banking.

- Total Securities market turnover value rose 3% month on month and was down 6% year on year to S$21.6 billion, during 21 trading days compared to 21 in April 2016 and 20 in May 2015.
- Securities daily average value (SDAV) rose 3% month on month and was down 11% year on year to S$1.0 billion.
- Market turnover value of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) was S$195 million, up 5% month on month and down 1% year on year.
- There was 1 Mainboard IPO, raising S$634.4 million.
- There were 27 new bond listings, raising S$12.3 billion.
- Total market capitalisation value of 766 listed companies stood at S$894.7 billion as at end May 2016.

All markets operated by the Hong Kong Futures Exchange will be closed for business on 9 June 2016. In order to assure that safeguards are in place against potential market risks that may arise during the aforesaid period when some of the major markets are open, the Clearing House has decided to make a mandatory intra-day variation adjustment call on Clearing Participants in the Hang Seng Index (“HSI”), Mini-Hang Seng Index (“MHI”), H-Shares Index (“HHI”), Mini H-Shares Index (“MCH”), HSCEI Dividend Point Index (“DHH”) and USD/CNH Futures (“CUS”) markets on Wednesday, 8 June 2016.

Summary Of May 2016 Activities At TOCOM - TOCOM May Volume Averaged 109,860 Contracts Per Day, Down 6.2% - Total Monthly Volume Gained 23.0% Y-O-Y

The Tokyo Commodity Exchange announced today that average daily volume for May 2016 was 109,860 contracts, down 6.2%. TOCOM’s largest contracts saw lower volume; Gold Standard dropped 2.8% to 34,636 contracts, Dubai Crude Oil fell 11.4% to 24,425 contracts and Rubber was down 8.3% to 10,505 contracts. Total monthly volume was up 23.0% to 2,087,332 contracts year-on-year.
